Vol. 1 No. 6 — A God story.
*This is the sixth issue of a previous iteration of this newsletter. It was called Heart Stuff & Coffee. I’m adding all previous issues here to be part of the archive.
She said she prayed for me as tears filled her eyes. This woman, whom I didn’t even know, standing before me.
Ok, let me back up. You may or may not know that in 2017 I was in an accident which caused me to lose my legs, requiring me to use a wheelchair. It’s a miracle I survived. And that’s not hyperbole or merely a matter of speech. I’m alive because of an act of God.
So, on Sunday I was at church grabbing some cold brew before the service started (I love my church for providing cold brew in the summer!). A woman I hadn’t met before was there and she asked my name and if I was the one who had been in an accident involving a train a few years back. When I answered yes she said, “oh, I prayed for you” in such a genuine and heartfelt tone. I could see the care in her eyes.
What’s funny is, as she told me, the day of my accident she was in the area it happened. She heard of me and prayed, “God please save her, rescue her.” And the thing is I was not a Christian at the time. I shared with her that I became a Christian about a year and a half after the incident. Of course, by this time we’re both teary-eyed and hugging. I said, ”And He did. He rescued me in more ways than one.”
That is the grace and grandiosity of our God! He is so good. I shared this same story with a couple of my sisters in Christ and one of them said God didn’t have to let me know that little tidbit of information - the insight into how and through whom He worked a terrible accident for my GOOD and His glory. But He did because He knew I would be encouraged by it, and I was! That is God’s love.
Even when we think He isn’t there and we can’t see what He’s doing, He draws near.
He meets us where we are. I hope that story is as encouraging to you as it is to me. Look for the ways He is near to you this week.
