Vol. 1 No. 6. — One of the best things I’ve ever done!
Getting rid of social media.
*This is the first issue of a previous iteration of this newsletter. It was called Heart Stuff & Coffee. I’m adding all previous issues here to be part of the archive.
Well, friend, I’ve been away from your inbox for a while but I am glad to be back. I have some news and a new freebie for you!
If you remember what this newsletter looked like, you’ll notice I made some changes. But the changes go beyond aesthetics. One of the best changes I made recently (business and personal) is to delete ALL Instagram and Facebook accounts. It has been great so far. I have also made a Buy Me a Coffee account to share content with you and build community. A bit more on that later.
Deleting social media almost feels like a weight has lifted, especially the weight of comparison.
It is way too easy to compare myself to other artists and business owners (and who am I kidding, compare myself to anyone) on social media, especially on Instagram. Worse than comparison, the struggle with envy is real, friend. I'm not proud to admit it but it's true. Not only that, but social media is such a time suck and was leading me to consume more than create.
There are many other reasons for getting rid of social media (and I mean deleting accounts, not just the apps) but I'll spare you all the details (ads, shady Meta practices, etc). I have been reading a book called Digital Liturgies, which delves into this topic well. I had decided to get off social media before reading this book but it has still been very informative and intriguing. If you want to know more about what social media does to us, why it does this, and how it’s a spiritual issue, I highly recommend this book. You can find the link below.
